About
Henry Ivie-Gardner is a guitarist, educator, composer, and producer/beatmaker based in Eugene, Oregon. He holds a Bachelor's of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Oregon, where he studied jazz guitar performance, composition/arranging, and education/pedagogy.
Henry began playing the guitar at age four, finding an early love for improvisation and the guitar.
Later, he became drawn to hip-hop and r&b, encouraging him to begin his journey as a producer/songwriter, drawing inspiration from artists such as Mac Miller, Daniel Caesar and Tyler, the Creator.
It wasn't until later in high school when Henry found his love for jazz and improvised music, after being introduced by his friend, a saxophonist. This immediate passion led him to study this music seriously, both at the University of Oregon, and on the bandstand- being an active performer throughout the PNW, including numerous sold-out shows as a bandleader.
Blending these styles of jazz and hip-hop, Henry has released three singles, his own compositions that feature artists, Ken Mastrogiovanni, Nicole McCabe, Machado Mijiga, Julian Borkowski, Isaac Luger, and Will Glausi. Henry has also recorded and/or played guitar for musicians such as producer/pianist Telemakus, vibraphonist/composer Stefon Harris saxophonist Luke Turner, pianist Keith Brown, and more.
In addition to being an active performer in the Eugene area, Henry maintains his own private teaching studio where he offers lessons for guitar, composition/songwriting, music production/beatmaking and music theory/improvisation.
